Palmas del Mar Three King’s day Parade
Palmas del Mar Three Kings day parade, a beautiful tradition of our community.
Once more Palmas del Mar Homeowners Association and Hacienda Candelero celebrated the Three Kings Day Parade. This is a time-honored Christian tradition when Puerto Rico celebrates the Feast of the Epiphany to commemorate the Nativity of Christ and the visit of the Magi, popularly referred to as the Wise men or the Three Kings (Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar), to Baby Jesus. In Christian tradition, these were distinguished gentlemen who visited Jesus after his birth bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
In Puerto Rico, it is traditional for children to fill a box with fresh grass or hay and put it underneath their bed. The Three Kings will then take the grass to feed the camels and will leave gifts under the bed as a reward. This tradition is analogous to the custom of children leaving milk and cookies for Santa Claus.
Here at Palmas we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany with a horse-ride through the community led by the Three King and riders elegantly dressed, followed by a great celebration with typical music, food and gifts for children at Hacienda Candelero.
At the Equestrian Center, there were food and drinks, entertainment and games for the children and typical Puerto Rican music for everyone to enjoy. The Three Kings gave out gifts to the children. A jump horse show and Dressage also took place as part of the festivities.
